I Had ChatGPT Do My Homework, Then I Critiqued It

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has already transformed many industries, and digital marketing is no exception. In fact, AI is set to revolutionize the way businesses approach digital marketing. The use of AI in digital marketing has already begun, and as the technology improves, its potential for improving marketing campaigns is limitless. In this blog post, we will explore the ways in which AI will change the future of digital marketing.

Personalized Marketing

One of the most significant ways that AI will change digital marketing is by enabling businesses to personalize their marketing efforts. With the help of AI, businesses can analyze customer data to understand individual preferences and behaviors. This means that companies can create marketing campaigns that are tailored to specific customers' needs, interests, and buying behaviors. Personalization is essential for building customer loyalty, and AI will help businesses achieve this on a larger scale.

Improved Customer Engagement

AI-powered chatbots are already a common feature on websites and social media platforms. They can provide immediate customer support and assistance, 24/7, improving customer engagement and satisfaction. These chatbots can answer customer queries, make product recommendations, and provide personalized assistance. As AI technology advances, chatbots will become more sophisticated, allowing businesses to create more engaging customer experiences.

Enhanced Ad Targeting

AI can analyze customer data to identify patterns and predict consumer behavior. This means that businesses can create targeted ads that are more likely to resonate with their target audience. By using AI to analyze customer data, businesses can create more effective ads, leading to higher conversion rates and better ROI.

Better Content Creation

Creating high-quality content is crucial for digital marketing success. AI-powered tools can help businesses create better content faster. AI can analyze data to identify content that performs well and generate new ideas for content creation. AI can also automate the content creation process, freeing up time for marketers to focus on other aspects of their marketing strategy.

Improved Analytics and Insights

AI-powered analytics tools can provide businesses with valuable insights into their marketing campaigns. These tools can analyze large amounts of data to identify trends and patterns that humans may miss. With AI-powered analytics, businesses can make data-driven decisions and adjust their marketing strategies in real-time.

In conclusion, the use of AI in digital marketing is set to revolutionize the industry. From personalized marketing to improved customer engagement, enhanced ad targeting, better content creation, and improved analytics and insights, AI has the potential to transform every aspect of digital marketing. As AI technology continues to improve, businesses that embrace these changes will gain a competitive advantage in the digital marketing landscape.

It’s me again!

So if you haven’t caught on yet, ChatGPT wrote everything that you just read! It took less than 10 minutes and I think that the results are quite impressive. I started with a simple prompt: “Please write a blog post about how artificial intelligence will change the future of digital marketing” and it came up with the entire blog post. However, I didn’t love the formatting and I still needed a caption for LinkedIn so here’s how the rest of our conversation went.

I thought the experience was great and I was very impressed with what the software came up with. However, I don’t think ChatGPT is the perfect solution for all of your copywriting needs.

ChatGPT pros and cons

I’ll start by saying that I do love what ChatGPT offers. My bosses at Rhino Fine Foods are incredibly interested in AI so they’ve had me using the program since early January. It has saved me a ton of time and undoubtedly increased the quality of my work. I work alone 99% of the time so I almost see ChatGPT as my coworker (is that weird to say?). It won’t always offer you the final solution but it does have great capability for ideation and feedback. Here’s some of the other pros and cons that I’ve found from using it the past few months.

Pros

  • It has extremely versatile capabilities! Today I had it write a blog post but I’ve also had it write social media captions, article titles, scripts, and even recipes.

  • It takes direction well. You may need to split your directions into multiple messages, but it almost always can get you what you need. You can even provide a URL for it to look at to gain information about a specific topic.

  • ChatGPT is free (for now). Given how powerful and popular this tool is, it’s incredible that it’s still available at no cost. ChatGPT Plus is currently offered for $20 a month, which I would still think is such a steal, even if it didn’t have the added features. Either way, it’s a worthwhile resource to have in your toolkit.

Cons

  • The biggest con that I see in ChatGPT is the potential for inaccuracy. Luckily, they’re upfront about this by including a disclaimer right when you open the program. It can be a bit time consuming to fact check everything that it mentions, however, I think it’s a worthwhile tradeoff when you consider how much time is saved overall.

  • If you’re going for differentiation, you may want to reconsider using ChatGPT. Although it is a wonderful resource for copywriting, I see it more as a research tool. It scours the Internet for its information, so most of the time, it is simply regurgitating the most common facts in an attractive format. Not to mention, ChatGPT currently has over 13 million daily visitors. It’s not a far reach to assume that someone is using it for the exact same reasons as you are, generating incredibly similar responses. This type of content does have its time and place, however, if you want to set yourself apart, relying more on humans may be a better option.

  • My last important note about ChatGPT is that it has limitations based on time period. This too is noted when you first open the program but it still is a major disadvantage for marketers. So much of our job is based on trends and with minimal knowledge of events since 2021, ChatGPT cannot provide quality outputs for that portion of our job. However, I do think it is still an amazing resource for developing evergreen content.

Now that I’ve discussed some of my thoughts surrounding ChatGPT, let’s take a look at what it and artificial intelligence in general means for digital marketers.

The future of digital marketing

AI isn’t going away anytime soon, so marketers need to start embracing the changes that it will bring, before they have the chance to be left behind. Don’t worry though, AI is far from perfect and will always require a human element in order to be effective at marketing to other humans. Here’s how I see AI affecting digital marketer’s jobs in the future.

  • Increased productivity: With various programs coming out offering services ranging from copywriting to pricing, there’s endless opportunity for increased productivity. AI-generated photos are becoming more popular, meaning that even creative tasks could be streamlined or even completely performed by AI.

  • Better results: Machine learning is already helping marketers improve their strategies. Data analysis becomes easier and automated, meaning that new findings can be integrated quicker. AI also offers more accurate predictions based on historical data, meaning that campaigns are more likely to be successful when informed by AI.

  • Less responsibilities: Since AI has the ability to streamline various marketing activities, it leaves the marketers more time to focus on other tasks. Of course, AI outputs will always need to be reviewed by a human before being released to the world but the time saved by using AI is still incredibly valuable.

All in all, ChatGPT and AI in general are necessary tools for the modern digital marketer. They offer fresh perspectives, streamlined processes, and more time for you to focus on the important things. AI is the future whether you like it or not - will you be able to keep up?
